JSS elects the President and Director-General every two years. They play an important role to support and develop activities of the JSS and help JSS contribute to enhance the discipline of statistics. Past Presidents and Director-General were elected among statisticians as well as researchers in various related fields.

Address from President

April 1, 2011
Akimichi Takemura (2011-2012)
Professor of Faculty of Engineering, The University of Tokyo.

As the president of Japan Statistical Society for 2011-2012, I would like to contribute to further development of the Society, together with the director general Prof. Manabu Iwasaki and other members of the board of directors.

As of April 1, JSS became an incorporated body. With this change of status, JSS is more widely recognized as an academic society serving the general public. With this recognition we can promote some new activities.

The most important activity is the JSS Certificate examination. On November 20 of this year we will hold the first JSS Certificate examination. In view of more increased demand to statistics from many fields, we believe that our examination system will be well received and successful.

Director-General - Manabu Iwasaki (2010-2011)

Professor of Faculty of Science and Tecnology, Seikei University.
